The Fountain of Peace Project

The Fountain of Peace on YouTube Canadian School Visits

Description of “The Fountain of Peace”

The Fountain of Peace Project will unite Canadian children with each other through messages of peace. To facilitate this effort and create a legacy and tangible celebration a mobile fountain made of stones from around the world called “The Fountain of Peace” has been created. The Fountain is a symbol of a world without boundaries or borders.

The Fountain of Peace Project will visit approximately 40 launch schools across Canada.  These schools will be located in major cities in each province.  The Launch Schools will be the catalyst within their province.  During our visit to each Launch School we will film interviews with students asking them two questions.  What kind of world do you want? What does peace mean to you?  These interviews will be collected for the purpose of a documentary focused on Canadian Children’s Voices of Peace.

Each Launch School will be required to create a electronic or physical messages of peace that can be sent to Canadian Children in another school within their Division as well as to a school in another school Division in their province.  They will also be sending, as a gift, a copy of the recording of their school singing “The Kind of World that We Want”, which in turn will extend an invitation for that school to also participate in the Fountain of Peace Project. By passing the peace messages forward The Fountain of Peace Project will be uniting Canadian Children’s voices in peace, creating an opportunity to hear their voices and honour their wisdom and supports their futures.

The Fountain

The Fountain of Peace is constructed so it can be easily moved from school to school. The basin is made from stainless steel. The base stone symbolizes the Canadian landscape and its people. There are seven towers representing the seven continents. The children at each school will hang the stones onto the towers recreating the world. They will be invited to bring water from their homes to place in the fountain. Peace.  Each school will pass around a stone and place wishes of peace in the stone. This stone will then represent the children from each school we have visited or children from a  friendship school.

Messages of Peace

Each school will be asked to create messages and images of peace from their students.  These messages can be in whatever form the teachers imagine.  The messages can be electronic, a film, a compilation of recordings, murals or letters.  These messages and a recording of the school singing “The Kind of World that We Want” will then be gifted forward. By gifting forward the students’ messages, Canadian children will be reaching out to each other with the hope of building friendships to create an even stronger voice for world peace.  The Wave of Peace!

Peace Begins With A Smile Assembly

Each Launch school will host an assembly.  The Founder of the Fountain of Peace will do an opening presentation.  Each class will have a representative read a sample peace message from their classrooms.  While the messages are being read representatives from the classes will be hanging the stones on the fountain. When the building of the fountain is completed, the children will be invited to sing together “The Kind of World that We Want” which will be recorded for the purpose of the collaborative choir.  There will be a closing by the Fountain of Peace Founder and the school Principal.  We are open to creating the assembly in what ever format the school wishes.

The Kind of World That We Want (the song)

A song has been created and recorded by a Victoria, British Columbia children’s choir which can be heard on our website. The lyrics and recording of the gifting school will be sent along with the messages of peace as a gift from one school to the other.  If any school wishes to make a recording and send their recording to us we would be happy to post it on our website dedicating a page to their school.  The score and recording of the music will be provided to every school that wishes to participate.

Follow the Wave of Peace

There will be a map identifying the Launch Schools in each province.  These schools will be identified by a red dot.  The schools who receive gifts from the Launch School will  be identified by yellow dots on the map.  As the Wave of Peace crosses Canada you will be able to see the schools that are involved in creating this Wave.  We encourage participating schools to create a web page on their website where they can post their peace messages and recording of the song.  We will then create a link from our website to yours so our visitors can view your messages.  We also invite your family and friends to visit our website to learn more about the Fountain of Peace Project. Become part of the Wave of Peace and help light up Canada and show the world we truly are a nation of PEACE.
